Can anyone tell me how I can see the notes on my computer while projecting
only the slides to my audience?  I know I've seen it done before, but I can't
find a way to do it and the standard 'helps' arn't any help :)

The feature you are looking for is called "Presenter View". You turn it on
under Set Up Show. It requires you to have your computer set up to have two
monitors, the projector and your laptop. If you need more help getting this
set up, let us know which version of PPT you have.
