Has anyone used Powerpoint to mockup screens?  Can you share any tips?

Place the non-movable objects on the master slide first.

Then you won't accidentally click on and drag those items.

You can use powerpoint to do mockup screens, and even 'fake' them actually
working.... eg. by clicking a certain area and the 'jumping' to simulate
something happening.

The only downside - is that powerpoint will 'anti alias/smooth' your screen
grabs of actual computer software.

Thing is, your skill level with PowerPoint and possibly VBA are going to be
the deciding factor in what you may want to tackle.  Of course how closely
it has to mimic the GUI you have in mind is the other biggie.  Can you give
us a hint on both?
