I need to create a custom layout but don't know how

I've tried taking the first 'Click to edit Master text styles' and copying
it into the second area, but it doesn't work when you try it from the template

And how to fix the font size when the 2-column layout is chosen.
It's set to be 20 points, which is fine in the single column layout, but
when it's switched to 2-columns, it drops down to 18 points.

I can't see any way of fixing it.  I've tried switching off the Tools >
Autocorrect > AutoFormat as you type options of AutoFit title/body text to
placeholder, but it still shrinks.

Any help on this would be gratefully received

Do you have 2007? (Always wise to include your version!)
You can't have custom layouts in earlier versions so this could be the problem

Two column layouts always have a reduced font size (not silly as there are
two columns to fit in!)

If you need the same size text throughout in XP onwards you can add a second
master with text set to probably 4 points higher than needed and use this
only for two column layouts. (select the slides as needed and right click on
the new master in design pane > apply to selected slides)
