PowerPoint 2007 Master Slide Spell check issue

We've created a master slide template in 2007. When we select "new slide" and
select it from our master slides, these particular slides do not get spell
checked.

If we were to add a text box only, then the text box gets spell checked, but
none of the text boxes from the master slide template get spell checked.

Is there a reason for this?

I'd assume that the text on the slide master gets spellchecked once on the
slide master itself. There's no need to spell check it each time you add a
slide, because it's the same text that's on the slide master -- that has
already (presumably) been checked. That's why new textboxes would be
checked, but existing text wouldn't.

But it sounds as though you're running into a specific issue. Can  you give
us details?

Just for the record Echo & Jeff I set up several new masters in 2007 and
created slides from them all. They all spell checked fine. Is there something
we're missing?

Do all the masters have the same languageID?

And here I added text boxes with deliberate misspellings to the master and
several layouts.  Went back to normal view and the spellchecker caught the
mistakes on the masters.

Once you've told the spellchecker what to do with the "caught" typos (ignore,
whatever) it no longer badgers you about them, though.
