Outlook as used as my company's e-mail so I have it up all day. I closed
Outlook and VOILA, I have design template previews in the Task Pane.

Good news. If so, you may still be able to leave Outlook running if you like.
Try changing its settings NOT to use Word as your email editor.
Or if you really really want to use Word as the email editor, try disabling any
end/footnote addins in Word. That may sort things in ... really, no kidding ...
PowerPoint.
