I have a small ppt presentation (2 slides) the transition time from 1-2 is
fine but the 2nd slide (last slide) doesn't hold and so you don't see the
last animation, it just quickly turns to black screen or if I have it on loop
to the first slide.  I am trying to allow the reader to read the second slide
in completion.

Try selecting just the last slide and in the slide transition pane increase
the auto transition time. Do not click "Apply to all" just close the pane.

See if that works

An alternative way which I prefer is to have an animation OFF SCREEN set to
very slow (5 secs) This can be eg a rectangle with a fade entrance.
