Is there a way to copy & restore customized toolbars in PowerPoint, Word &
Excel.  I have to reimage my harddrive because of software conflicts and I
don't want to  have to recreate all of my toolbars.

Thank you for your help.

You can look for *.PCB files -- those are PPT toolbars. Put them in the same
place on your newly imaged drive.

You may want to write down your toolbar settings, though -- I've never had
any luck transferring toolbars from one machine to another.

I think one of the versions of Office has a "save my settings" wizard. Ah,
here -- http://support.microsoft.com/kb/826809 I can't tell if it saves
toolbars or not, though! (If the toolbars are in the <app data> folder, then
I suppose yes.)

In addition to Echo's excellent advice, you may want to have a look at the
files & settings transfer wizard: start -> all programmes -> accessories ->
system tools -> files & settings transfer wizard.

The problem I am having is the file locations - and file extensions.  I am
looking for the templates for Word, Excel & PowerPoint.  I know Excel is
.xlb, PowerPoint is .pcb and Word I believe would be Normal.dot.  I have
found them in several locations on my C drive, but I don't know which one is
the right one.

Does the wizard back up templates too?

Thanks,

PowerPoint templates are POT files. PowerPoint toolbars are PCB files.

I'm not sure how the toolbars in Word work -- they might travel with the
Normal.DOT template, for all I know. :-) I'd ask in the Word and Excel
groups for advice on those programs.

I don't know if the wizard backs up templates, too. I doubt it, though.

Maybe just do a search on your HD for *.POT (or whatever extension), then
copy the resulting files to an external drive, jump drive, CD, what have
you. Take a screenshot of the window so you know where to put them on the
new system.
