mp3 linking problem in powerpoint 2007

I created a powerpoint in Office 2003, put it in a folder and added my mp3
files to that folder, linked my mp3 files to the PP and was able to play them
with no problem. Once I upgraded to PP 2007, my mp3 files no longer play in
the powerpoint. I tried re-linking them (which didn't work), and I am able to
play them in both itunes and windows media player. They will play if I
convert them to WAV files, but I don't want to do this because of the
increased file size. Whenever I right-click on the sound icon for the linked
mp3 and click "preview," I get this error: "MCI Error, the specified file
cannot be played on the specified MCI device." Also, I did see a suggestion
by someone to click Start>Run>mplay32.exe and try to play the files with
this. I was unable to play any mp3's with this but got the error "cannot
determine the device type from the given file name extension". Please help so
my powerpoint doesn't become bigger than it already is!!

I thought I would let everyone know I fixed my problem, and let you know what
I did in case anyone else ever has this problem. I had itunes set as my
default audio player instead of windows media player, and once I changed that
setting back to WMP, my mp3's started working again. Aggravates me that I
have to use WMP, but at this point, I'm just glad my mp3's are working again.

Thanks for getting back with your solution.
Glad it's sorted but I wasn't able to repro it. Even with Itunes as my
default I could listen to mp3 files in PPT 2007 just fine and also use the
Cdex embed method (http://www.pptalchemy.co.uk/embed_mp3.html)

Interested if any one else has this problem?
