In a presentation that I'm working on, I want there to be a single background
track playing throughout the presentation which begins on the first slide. On
some slides in the powerpoint I have animations which trigger sounds. The
first animation sound that is played in the powerpoint seems to stop the
background track from playing, and prevents it from starting back up.

Is there any way to fix this?

There's no simple way to have the background music stop and restart when
other sounds play.

If you just want the back sound to keep playing while other sounds play then
you might be able to do this by making the background sound  a linked mp3 file
