I'm a real beginner and need to be able to during a slide show only show one
line of text at a time rather than everything on the slide at once

Always good to mention the version of Powerpoint as the instructions will
differ.

If you select the placeholder containing the text to be animated and NOT
highlight all the text then go to custom animation and apply the animation it
will default to "on click"

Hi David,

which version of PowerPoint do you use? You can achieve to show the bullet
points one after the other by using animation. This Microsoft article
explains the basics:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/powerpoint/HP011496501033.aspx?pid=CH063500711033
(This will not work in PowerPoint 2007, as there are no longer animation
schemes, but you can use Custom animation instead.)

Best regards,
Ute
