I want to create an award certificate, feed it from an Excel list for one
name per certificate 100 times?  How can this be done?

Perhaps someone else will chime in..... (as I'm sure there is probably an
easier way)

but here's a start

Add new slides with titles and text from a text file
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00661.htm

and
Create a PowerPoint presentation from a plain text file
http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00246.htm

Linking information from Excel

Our Merge add-in for PowerPoint was written to do exactly this.
And a lot more.

You can give it a full test with the free demo
