I have inserted pics that I have cropped down from my web site, I try to
highlight the pic but will only show the circles that allow to move the pic.
If I click on Inset/Hyperlink the box pops up with the corresponding URL,
click OK but does not work. I sent it to a friend, he says the box with the
URL shows up but does not function.

Hyperlinks only work in Show View, not in Normal (editing) View.
Hit Shift+F5 to start the presentation on the selected slide, then try
clicking the picture/link. Does it work then?
Also, there are often problems with links attached to groups. Your pictures
aren't grouped with other objects, are they?

Are you viewing the presentation in PowerPoint's Normal view or one of the
other editing views? Links only work in Slide Show view.
Open your presentation and press F5 to view it as a Slide Show.
Do the links work now?
