Relog-in Problem During Presentations

Does anyone have this problem?:

During a presentation you need to put your mouse down for 10-20
minutes or more, and your computer goes into a Screen Saver/Sleep mode
requiring you to log in to continue. However, you are not permitted to
adjust the screen saver/sleep settings. If so, what do you do about it?

Your IT staff has set the "not permitted to adjust screen saver/sleep settings"
policy.  It's not a Windows default and strictly speaking has nothing to do
with PowerPoint (other than that it happens to bite you more brutally during
PPT presentations).

You'll probably need to get the IT staff to change the policy (or get in the
habit of wiggling the mouse every so often to prevent the screen saver from
kicking in).

Thanks Steve--is this an issue that's happened to you personally?

Bob - how locked down is the PC?

Apart from mouse wiggling (which I beleive is illegal in public in some
States) you could:
1. Train your dog to press the shift key every so often
2. Install Caffe1ne to do just that for you

Method 2 is more likely to get approval from pet owners.

Hi Bob

I used to work in a place where this happened (as people would do things
like leave for the weekend still logged on to their computers which were
full to bursting of confidential information) and in the end IT set up a
special presentation log on that didn't have the screensaver set to kick in.
So you could either share you ppt across the network with the presentation
log on or you could bring it on a usb stick. Only had to happen to the CEO
once for IT to agree to it....

That's a really good solution.

It would have been if anybody had ever actually used in instead of their own
log on.... User. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em ;-)

No, but we see reports of the same problem here from time to time.

My IT staff (me) goes to great lengths to avoid annoying the users (me) with this
kind of thing.  The users(me) can be pretty rough on the IT staff (me) when things
don't go their(my) way, and that only hurts everybody(me).  ;-)
