> How do I set a password to open or modify a Powerpoint document?
Not sure about 2008, but no previous Mac versions support password protection.

Yup, Steve's right - PowerPoint 2008 for Mac doesn't support password
protection. You can use the Finder file info pane to set the read and write
permissions for the file, and I believe that this will be valid for Mac
users. But whether that will prevent the file from being opened in
PowerPoint 2007 for Windows, you'd have to try it out and see...

Interesting question. It might depend on how you moved the file from one place
to another as well as on PPT internals. The permissions wouldn't be part of
the file itself (as Windows/DOS understands files) but might come along for the
ride as a separate file, as happens with Mac files that get written to
Windows/DOS formatted storage media.
