Is there a way to start a new presentation without closing out of the program.

In 2003 and before you have an icon "New" at the left side of the toolbar
"Standard"; you can also use Ctrl+N or "File / New" and than "Blank
presentation" on the task pane.

In 2007 you click on the Office-Button and than on "New", "Blank
presentation" and OK
