In PPT 2003, when I copy and pasted an object from another program (in my
case, GraphPad Prism), it became an object in PPT.  I could then convert the
object into a drawing object where I could manipulate the individual lines,
text, etc.  I did this by selecting "ungroup", which would then tell me that
it would have to convert it first.

However, I can't find a way to do this in PPT 2007.  The "Group" button is
not highlighted and so I can't select it.  How can I convert objects from
other programs?

After copying the object onto the slide, you'll probably have to copy it,
then Paste Special (Alt+Shift+V in PPT 2007) as EMF or WMF and ungroup that.
