Repeat a series of many effects (loop a subset of effects)

I've looked without success to try to loop a subset series of say, 8 effects
(in the middle of say 20), such that these effects act continually once
invoked.

To place context around this, it shows about 6 subway cars travelling in a
predifined pattern between 4 stations, and once I walk through it once, I
want the pattern repeated ad infinitum as I continue the slide show. How,
please?

Will setting repeat until end of slide (for all the added effects) achieve
what you want?
If not, you will need to make use of custom show to achieve this.
First, click Slide Show > Custom Shows.
Create a new custom show and add the animated slide into the custom show.
Close custom show.
Click Slide Show > Slide Transition.
Under Advance Slide, put a checkmark to "Automatically After".
Click Slide Show > Set Up Show.
Under Show options, put a checkmark to "Loop continuously until 'Esc'".
Click Ok.
Right click on the thumbnail of the animated slide, select Hide Slide.

Now, add a dummy slide just before the animated slide.
Create an action button on the dummy slide and have the action button
hyperlinks to the Custom Show. This will allow you to enter the custom show
once you click on the action button.
Put a checkmark to "Show and return" if you want to return to the dummy
slide.

When viewing the presentation, clicking the action button on the dummy slide
will bring you to the animated slide. Once you are ready to start the
presentation, press Esc key to go back to the dummy slide. Then advance to
the rest of the presentation by pressing Enter key.

Before I look at your "Custom Show" solution (thanks, by the way), I want to
say that the 'repeat' would likely work except it's greyed out when I have
multiple effects chosen. Now I've seen a reference implying you can collapse
multiple effects into a list, but I haven't found out how to do that. Might
you know how?

Double click on the added effect, then click in Timing tab.
Set Repeat to Until End of Slide.
Note that not all effects can be repeated. (e.g. Appear, Change Font type,
Bold Reveal, etc)

Thanks, but this is a complex series of effects where things need to loop as
a group (including 'appear', 'disappear', etc.) I guess you're saying
PowerPoint can't handle it, at least with the appears/disappears.

I want the whole series, as in... Effect A, then Effect B, then Effect C (Go
to A).

What happens is that the first iteration works, but from then on, all start
simultaneously as opposed to being in a series. This seems pretty basic but
I guess you're saying it can't be done. Thanks, though.

I'm not saying this can't be done. I'm saying if setting repeat until end of
slide isn't what you are looking for, then you will need to make use of the
custom show. Please refer to my first post for more information.

Thanks for the email notice, Shawn, and I'll look at your first post. But
just to clarify, setting repeat on the series is indeed what I am looking for
- that is, I want the 'repeat' specification to repeat exactly what happens
during the first iteration - and *that* is what I'm saying apparently can't
be done, at least in a consistent manner. One would hope at least in future
versions, the repeat will repeat whatever's specified - whether that includes
disappear / appear or any series of effects.

After all, to do this initially, I had to use "custom animation"... now the
current method is to customize the already-customized, using a different
approach, it seems. Allowing a group of effects to repeat in the initial
manner seems far more logical than never including the dependancies and
having them all strart effectively "with previous", especially since as I
understand it, a group can somehow be defined. Still, Powerpoint just 'pwns'
the presentation tools I used in the 70s, and I commend MS for the progress.

You will need to know that when using repeat, the effect will repeat
immediately once the first iteration is completed. If you have a delay added,
it won't be included into the second iteration. Hence, effects such as appear
cannot be repeated.

To loop a group of effects in its initial manner, you will need to make use
of custom show. (And yes, this is what you are looking for) What it does is
that, once the animation is completed, the slide will restart and animate
again.
