powerpoint version 2003 sp2

when saving file even without amending the document, the file size increases
by 50kb each time. eg original 562kb ->612kb -> 662...did not change
filename.

Sounds like you have fast saves turned on. Turn them off through tools ->
options -> save -> untick 'allow fast saves'.
