I have unwanted blank white slides in  powerpoint slide show

In my powerpoint presentation I have white blank slides between many of the
pictures. These do not appear in the thumbnails.This is a picture
presentation using animation to the titles and pictures.   How did they get
there and how can I get rid of them?
