my tools menu does not reveal a commercial printing tools option, yet I need
to locate an instance of 'eric' that is apparently embedded, and preventing
.PDF conversion

Depending on the size of your document, couldn't you try converting it a few
pages at a time? If it's real big, try doing it by halves. Eventually you'll
find the objectionable font. Or you could try uninstalling that font and
substituting something else when prompted.
