Mary, Thank you. I see I did not word my question to ask exactly what I
needed to know.  Will it open it as a 2000? Without converting it to 2007? I
am refering to comands, placement and justifacation.

It should open as 2000. I don't think it will convert to 2007 until you save it
again. If you want it to retain the 2000 formatting save as a 2000 document.

I just now opened a 2000 document with 2007. It had WordArt, it opened fine. The
old WordArt is just as it was in 2000. Publisher 2007 will let you edit the old
WordArt.

This is great news ... I have some old 2002 templates I was hoping I could
import and convert ... do you know if 2007 is able to convert old files with
good success? Any particular old elements that don't convert well?

Thanks ... vanilla

Vanilla, There is very little difference in a 2002 file and a 2007 file.
