I am trying to use a macro in Publisher to open an Excel file that is a data
source for a catalogue merge. Is this possible? I am not very familiar with
visual basic. Right now I have exported some data from Filemaker into an
Excel text file. I am using publisher's catalogue merge feature and I am
trying to simplify the number of processes that the end user will have to do.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I would suggest beginning by reading Andrew May's article on the subject,
here:

ull=/library/en-us/odc_pb2003_ta/html/odc_pb_catalogmergeoverview.asp

Could you explain a little more what it is that you are trying to do with
Excel here?  More details would be needed for further help.
