The ability to edit text boxes within the publication pages, but created in
the Master Pages, would be a great service to this product. I try to support
Microsoft products, but because of this issue, I will be switching to Adobe
products for my publishing needs.
Also, I inquired the Assistant about this issue and in one section it stated
that Text Boxes can be used in the Master Pages, but after reading several
pages, the Assistant states: "if you add empty text boxes on a master page,
you can't insert text into them on publication pages that use that master
page. But, you can create layout guides on the master page that you can use
to determine where to create text boxes on the publication page." Why not
replace 'Text Boxes' with 'Text' since a text box is useless without text?
'Text Boxes' simply communicates the wrong message.

The Master Page is simply one click away from the Publication page...Not too tough.
In Publisher "text" is useless without a text box.
InDesign is a $700 product... I'd go for it...

You have got completely the wrong end of the stick regarding what Master
Pages are actually supposed to DO.
Master pages are designed to be a background that appear behind every page,
and identical in each iteration. If they were made editable from within the
publication page, then it would be confusing when you edited an object that
appeared to be on the publication page, and suddenly it was edited
throughout the publication.
This is why you must press Ctrl+M to edit the master page.
If you add empty text boxes to the master page, you must return to the
Master Page to add text to them.
What Master Pages are NOT is pages that are used as templates when creating
new pages based on them. Publisher deos not currently support this.
Feel free to choose the application that suits your needs and budget.
And next time, feel free to post in the correct group. This newsgroup is
for discussion of programming (as in writing computer code) in Publisher
using the Publisher Object Model. The type of issue you describe would best
be placed in the main microsoft.public.publisher newsgroup.
