page numbering

I can't get to the Page Number Dialog to set up page numbering.
With the Master page open I click INSERT and then PAGE and instead of
getting the Page Dialog I get the New Master Page Dialog.

Any idea what is wrong here???

You apply numbering on the publication page, not the Master page. Insert, page
numbers. The numbers are put on the master page and you can edit them there.

Mary,

Thanks, That gave me what I needed to know.

One of the things that confused me was that the insert menu item took a long
time to expand fully and so I didn't see the Page Numbering selection. All I
saw was Page... which adds a new page.

Right-click any toolbar, customize, Options tab, check *Always show full menus*
