Using Pub. '03 in XP Pro - uploaded straight from Publisher to ftp address at
Earthlink host.

I just uploaded my site for the first time. It is perfect on my computer. On
another one, some text boxes are cut short, "back to top" links are 3"-4"
below where they should be, one area of text comes up in Times Roman instead
of Trebuchet, fonts show up much smaller, a couple of graphics are 1"off from
proper position...etc.
www.nierikasol.net --- any help would be more than appreciated!!!
Thanks,
Robert

Just reviewed your site due to your second post and viewing it in IE 6.1 with
a monitor at 1280x1024 it looked great.
What browser was the other machine using? and was it a WIndows browser vs
mac? and at what resolution? since 2003 codes in fixed positions (x pixels
and y pixels) in the window, a non typical ratio resolution ( laptops and big
screens ) could skew the result. as for the font that would indicate the
machine did not have Trebuchet installed so it was substituted for.

Thanks David.......the other machine runs ME and I believe the resolution is
1280x960 or even less - on a 15" LED screen.  The machine I created the site
also has IE 6 and1280x1024.  Many of the general problems I have already
fixed.  There are some stubborn spots but I think I will get those too.

What is to be done to have the site look right on all the various
screens/resolutions?

If you will.....
- 1 On the "other" machine, I have lost my hover (red) on the side nav bar.
I did not put in a code for that, it came automatically when I chose "text
only". Is there a way to ensure the hover on other machines?  Or even some
way to make sure the page one is on is higlighted in the nav bar somehow?

- 2 I am on dial-up with an accelerator - I usually use "refresh picuture
with full quality" to see a graphic in full resolution - On my site, when I
r-click on a graphic, IE doesn't even recognoze the graphic of display any
options for graphics and I cannot choose any graphic (pic) option.  Choosing
"refresh page with full quality" NEVER makes any difference - is ineffective
- yet always works on any other site.

- 3 Thanks for your help!

there you go, that's what I suspected, 1280x960 is a different ratio from
the "standard" 1280x1024. Since Publisher codes objects x number of pixels
down and x number of pixels over the ratio has to remain the same.

Not code your site in absolute positioning.
But Pub 2003 does.
So to answer your question, don't use Pub 2003.

Basically for best browser and machine support, compatibility, you have to
learn to do it yourself in a web design suite. You have to make some
trade-off's if you use Publisher.

I really don't understand this question. But then I have no experience with
accelerator software. One thing that might be related to whatever it is you
are asking is the fact that Pub 2003 has a complex coding scheme for images
involving VML and multiple copies of each image by format.

Robert, FWIW I found that sometimes when I use the insert HTML fragment
(with Publisher 2000)  it will result in various elements of my site being
moved around when it was published. As an example I found that if I inserted
the GO TO TOP HTML fragment below the navbar area to the left of my last
text box on the page, but NOT to the left of a space between text boxes,
then everything stayed put. In other cases, I just experimented with where
to insert the HTML code fragment box until I got the result I wanted.
