How can I make the pages of my website different lengths?

For example, my homepage is only a paragraph or two but my product pages are
pretty long.  How can I adjust the pages so that they only show the page up
to the part where it becomes blank?  So I would need page 1 to be short, but
pages 2,3 or 4 may all be much longer, the page 5 may be only a sentence or
two.
Thank you. :-)

Hello David,
As a first-timer using Pub. 2003, I am having a similar difficulty designing
my little static website. I saw the FAQ, which states that in 2003 length is
automatically adjusted for the content. While the content of my Master Page
only extends down to about 768px, the length of the MP itself is an arbitrary
4608px. I set it that long because Pub. was not automatically adjusting
lengths. Then I added a 1px border around the whole thing as a design
element, which could go away, but I'd rather not.

I tried setting the Master Page length to 3116, the length of my longest
page so far, but it just trashed the layout on all the Publication Pages,
regardless of their actual length.

At this point, I am stuck! May I send you my .pub file for your review?

thanks,
Kurt

I strongly recommend against the use of Master Page in a web publication. In
my tests it's use has been unpredictable, and I have been told by MS prior
to the release of 2003 that web publications do not support master page.

As for a border, if you applied a border to a web page that would lock in
the page height and prevent the dynamic sizing.

Thanks, David. So, now the question is, is there an easy way to back out of
the Master Page w/o having to rebuild each page to inherit the same look and
feel?

Apparently a common problem. I've been experiencing the same kinds of
problems. I want my pages to automatically adjust the length. I made a
webpage which contains a lot of products but there is just not enough space.

Is it possible to set the publication setup so that the content will move
automatically if something new is added? Right now it looks like the build is
on layers. That way things will just lie on top of eachother when added.

Thanks in advance for answering both questions.
(Sorry for using your thread Janet, but the subject is somewhat the same)

I wouldn't call this is a common "problem", but perhaps a common
"misconception" of how a desktop publishing program works vs. a word
processing program.

Assuming that you are not using Pub 2002, then Publisher will truncate the
page after the last design element on the page when you convert to HTML. If
you use a border around the whole page as described in this old thread, then
that is the last design element. However, Publisher is not Word, where it
lengthens automatically as you add more text or content. If you want a
longer page, then you have to create a longer page (File > Page Setup in Pub
2003). If you want to insert a design element somewhere on the page, then
move the other design elements out of the way, either one at a time, or by
grouping and moving as a group. That is the ADVANTAGE of a DTP over a word
processing program...more control over the exact placement of design
elements.
