I have a hyperlink that will not launch the file it's attached to.  I can
right click the hyperlink and save as but when I click on the hyperlink text
it will not open the file.  Any idea what's wrong?

Carefully check the path, the file name and if there are any uppercase
letters that shouldn't be there.
Also, was the file uploaded to the website.

Just so you know where I'm coming from this is the first website I have ever
designed.  The file I want to launch is located in the same folder as my
publisher file.  I linked the text in the website to the word document in the
same file.  When I preview the web design and try to open the document
nothing happens, however, I can right click the text and save the file.
Since I can save the file I know the path is correct, how do I make sure the
file is uploaded?

When you upload, the pub file is the only one that isn't included in the
upload. Just the html, gif (and other image files) and any files you want to
link to.  To verify the file was uploaded, just upload it again. If it isn't
there, it will do it without confirmation. If the file is there, a window
will pop up asking you if you'd like to replace it. You can say yes or no.

Now that you re-worded this I realize you are speaking of the external file
issue. Well documented in numerous posts in this forum and the faq page -

If you want to link to a file outside the publisher document (an external
file) then you have to manually upload that file to the web server and then
hyperlink to it's url.

What kind of file?
Perhaps you don't have a program associated to that file type.
Or perhaps the browser blocks it.
What browser is it?
And what version of Publisher is the site in?

It's a word document.  I just bought my laptop.  So I have the latest version
of Internet Explorer and Publisher 2003.
