I have transferred a pdf file to my server root directory and am trying to
link to it from my home page but I get an error that the page is unavailable.
What have I done wrong?  Using Pub 2003.
In my pub doc I created a hyperlink and browsed to my ftp site and found the
pdf file and added the link....

You create the link while you are editing the pub file.

You would not browse to the ftp site. That is secured access. You want the
http URL of the file. You manually type in the file URL, be what it may. For
example - http://www.mydomainname.com/thisismypdffile.pdf
