Since I now understand that Publisher doesn't create a tree heirarchy of
pages, I'm a little confused with the pages available to insert.
Specifically, the employee page shows a main employee page and then it shows
2 additional pages coming off of that page, one is called Employee Detail,
one is called Employee List with Links. This Employee List with Links
pages........... is that sort of a tree heirarchy of pages? Another question
is about linking pages. Let's say I've created a page for every family
member. Every time I insert a page, a link to that page is inserted on the
main / home / index page. Can I delete those links from the home page and
just create links through URLs between the list of family member pages and
their individual page?

When you "Insert" a new page, one of the options that you have is to "Add
hyperlink to navigation bars." Uncheck this option and the link will not be
added to the main navigation bar. You can then create a link on any other
page, pointing to "A place in this document" and then point to the newly
created page. I believe that is what you are looking to do.

So really you could have many pages in the actual document, but only have
minimal navigation buttons show up leading to the different main pages, and
then create links on those pages pointing to the secondary pages. There
really isn't a heirarchy of pages, but a horizontal row I guess. Through
this process you can simulate a heirarchy through the site, with only one
publisher file. Otherwise you could create different publisher files, and
create a physical heirarchy in this manner.

One more note on linking pages. I have found that you don't really have to
use the URL, but use the "Place in this ducument link" option, it is very
simple.

Select the text that you want to make a link.
Right click, select Hyperlink, Select "Place in this document" on the left,
and then select the page that you want to link to under "Page numbers and
names." This will automatically make a link to that page without you having
to enter any code or worry that it will work if you rename the page.
