thanks David, for all you do!
The URL is http://www.maryschanticleer.com The web site will probably look
fine to you, with pictures and left hand nav bar. It just doesn't look like
you see it on My computer. I have the subfolders with supporting files
uploaded on server (I really do know how to upload pages so I'm not a
newbie). Some pages I've not updated in a year or so, and they are now
looking wiggy on my computer but not on other computers. I'm set to view
encoding as Western European (windows) and tried UTF-8 (no change there).
It's only on MY computer. Now mind you I've not tried to upload my files I
created on my computer from one of our other computers, just viewed the
uploaded pages from other computers.
Another URL is http://schools.fcps.org/nmms/Newsletter/newsletter1.htm
(which should show as a dual column school newsletter. It probably will to
you, but it shows as one page one column text to me. I've noticed that if I
create a new page with 2 column table and type in the info...this I can see
fine on my computer when I upload to server, but again my pictures (exact or
inline placement) don't show up on my computer (see
http://schools.fcps.org/nmms/Newsletter/newsletter7.htm) , but do on others.
Also "only on my computer" I can't seem to see multiple created text boxes.
I appreciate your help very much.
Sample of newsletter page that "I" see.
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL And WELOME TO 2005!
Some are trying to put 2004 behind them. . Some are glad 2005 is here. We
have a new year to move forward with and do some great things: We can make
changes in ourselves, our lives and our families and the world.
Thank you to all the parents who have been behind the scenes supporting our
kids. Whether you know it or not, you make a big difference at NMMS. Your
smallest effort makes a difference to our kids. Your effort at home
listening to your child makes a difference.
New PTSA Editor
Hiya, I'm Mary Frye! I'm the new editor of the NMMS PTSA newsletter. I just
answered an e-mail and here I am. The former editor had other obligations,
so I'm now filling in.
Young Authors' Writing Contest:
The Frederick County Reading Council and SoMIRAC are sponsoring a Young
Authors' writing contest. This is a great opportunity for each grade level
to showcase their poetry and/or short story writing. Students should
contact their LA teacher for guidelines or pick up a guidelines sheet in the
media center. January 7 is the deadline to submit entries to their LA
teachers. The winners from New Market will automatically be entered into
the county competition, and county winners are entered into the State
competition. Last year, New Market had county winners at each grade level
and their writing was published in the spring "Design an Ad" section of The
Frederick News Post.
Extended Hours in the Media Center:
Starting January 11th 2005, the Media Center will have extended hours on the
second Tuesday of each month. Each month will feature a different Theme.
Our First evening will be a "coffee house" with real coffee and hot
chocolate available for all who come. Also, there will be board games
available for people to play. But most importantly, the media center will
be open to the entire community, if you'd like to come in and help your
children with their research or with book selections. The Media Specialist,
Mar Jo Richmond, will be on hand to assist students and parents. Computers
with a high-speed Internet connection are available for your use at that
time too. The Media Center will close 7:30 pm. Hope to see you there.

Here is something Interesting I discovered. If i bring the page up on
Netscape, version 8.0 beta browser...it comes up fine....
http://www.maryschanticleer.com
In netscape, When I check t he Trust Setting for my site (the yellow
security sheild icon)...it's set to "I'm not sure I trust this site" If I
toggle to "I trust this site" (maximum security setting) I get the werid
formatting like I get in IE 6.0. If I toggle the setting back to "I'm not
susre I trust this site" or the third setting "I don't trust the site" the
page comes up fine with graphics and links etc.
So this is a clue I think...
Thanks,
Sticks (still scratching her head on this one)

I just looked at the code for this site and found it's not 2003 code which I
thought you'd stated earlier. It is version 2002 code. In fact it's 2002
original code, which means either you haven't updated to SP3 or you are
purposely using it's rich html output, which is prone to big problems which
is a reason why there are service packs.
So you should update your Pub 2002 to service pack 3 and then resave and
republish the web site using the File, Export as... option.
Of course delete all site files off the web server and delete all browser
caches prior so you do a fresh clean publish.

That's one of the problems...I don't have pub 2002 anymore that's when this
started when I got loaded with 2003 (dh loads the stuff for me and he's
pretty savvy, he builds computers too and fixes them hardware and software,
but he's not familiar with publisher).
Y es the original pages were done in Publisher 2002. Then my husband
upgraded my computer a few weeks ago and loaded MSN OFFice 2003 (publisher
with SP 1) (i don't have publisher 2002 on my machine anymore). That's when
it started getting wiggy.
He's upgraded the other computers in the house and all but mine, show the
page just fine, just not on MY computer in IE 6.0.
When I click About Publisher on our machines The version shown is...
Microsoft Office Publisher 2003 (11.6255.6408) SP1.
So I'm working in 2003 with SP1 (I thought SP1 that was the lasted upgrade
for 2003). I honestly don't know if I had SP3 when I used 2002....so I'll
trust you that I didn't have SP3 for 2002 on old machine.
But you are right...when I click on view source at
http://www.maryschanticleer.com it says generator is Microsoft 10. That's
odd too as I've opend that old file (on my computer) from Pub 2003 Sp1 And
saved it as a file type web page (a . htm), but when I upload to server they
still come up as Publisher 10 on view source. There is no "Export Function"
on the file menu in 2003 SP1. It views fine in netscape with the previously
mentioned security settings but NOT in IE.
So I opened Blank web page in Publisher 2003 created a new web page and
started from scratch (when I saved it the "Save As Type" I select is "web
page")
The new page is http://www.maryschanticleer.com/mary.htm. Upload it to
server and when I view source it does say it's generator is Microsoft
Publisher 11.
yes I delete cache etc or hit reload to view. as before it views fine in
Netscape 8.0 with below (I'm sure security settings) but not in IE 6.0. Sigh.
As my husband said it's a personal problem (he's a big help LOL). I've been
a satelitte programmer and test engineer for 27 years...and I tell you I
come up with the weirdest problems! (we test engineers tend to push buttons
that they say don't do that!) I honestly think it's something personal to my
computer settings as every other computer I view the site on it looks just
fine. This is friend and family sites even at the library!
I may be one of those you just can't help. But I sure appreicate any help
you've given and feel free to cry uncle on me. Sigh..it's just a bunch of
0's and 1's.
thanks again daivd, I really appreciate you trying to help!
Hugs,
Sticks

Stop using the File, Save as...
Period.
Only use File, Publish as web.
FYI:
export as web = 2002 SP3
publish as web = 2003 SP1

Okay I did that...I created a new ...Blank web page. Put in background, one
picture and 3 lines of text. Did "File->Publish to web" with file name
mary1.htm
so http://www.maryschanticleer.com/mary1.htm
Uploaded it to my server and the mary1_files and It still does the same t
hing. views fine in netscape with medium security setting. Doesn't view in
IE 6.0 on my computer (just text no graphics) I go view it from other
computers in house and
in IE 6.0 it comes up just fine, as it has before
So I think we've narrowed it down to something specific to my computer. A
setting or something.
I can sure pick the problems can't I, LOL. I have a feeling this problem,
seemingly localized to my system only...is out of the scope of this forum.
Unless you have any other ideas....I really thank you for the time you've
spent and attempts to help me and all the FAQs etc that I've read and learned
from.

Views fine to me.
I guess go to the IE forum and post that your IE won't display that page.
Just be sure you limit the post to only stating that your IE doesn't display
the page. Don't mention Publisher. You do that and someone will just tell
you to come here.

well David...Guess what...
I changed the right security setting..and bingo pages come up...I don't
remember which one I changed (shoot was running late to PTA meeting, so
didn't vew pages til I got home!)
But it was definitely a security setting. If I get time I'll play with it
to find out which setting it was. So it was educational for that.
And I learned some good stuff about publisher 3. So thank you very much for
all your help and patience. This was the only forum I found that had really
really useful and technical information.
