I have chosen a the photo template with a photo gallery. However, I want a border around the photos. When I use a text box to produce the border, the hyperlink on the photo doesn't work?! How do I do this? Many thanks ChrisB, It is my understanding that both fill and borders break hyperlinks in some versions of Publisher. In the future, please post the version you use, as there are big differences. That's another subject you should read about on David Bartosik's site. Read his FAQs page, and at least the sections about your version of Publisher, and you will learn the answers to many questions you have yet to ask. If you double-click on it you get the AutoShape options but the Colours and Lines tab is greyed out. Therefore, what I did was created a text box around the original box. There must be another way of doing it but cannot find the option you mention in the menu - presumably because it won't allow me to put a border around it because it's greyed out. Here are some guesses... First of all just click once on one of the photos. Then try right clicking the frame > change frame > line/border style. Does this work? Alternatively when you right click do you get the option of Change Shape (or something like that) > Line/border style? In Pub 2000, when I double click on a picture frame, I get the option of changing the picture, not AutoShape options. This leaves me wondering if your template is using AutoShapes that are filled with a picture. If so, this option is different with Pub 2003, and it may be that the border you see before publishing is not really a border, just the outside edge of the AutoShape...or that it does not really support borders. I know that adding borders to images using Pub 2000 does not always work when I publish the document. One experiment you might try is to drag one of the images off into the scratch area, then create a new picture frame, insert your picture, and apply the border, do a web preview and see if there is any difference. If you are using image filled autoshapes in your template, then someone else will have to tell you how to format/apply a border, as this option is different in Pub 2003. I am pretty sure though that you do not add a layered text box to get the effect you are wanting. That most likely will result in a new gif image of the combined elements and likely will kill any hyperlinks. Good luck...DavidF > OK. I right >click [quoted text clipped - 77 lines] >> >> >> >> >> >> Many thanks If you are using a text box or auto shape to create a border around a previous object like a picture, word art, or another text box with a hyperlink, because it is created after the picture or word art is imported or text created, it "masks" the previous object, so you will need to change the order on the page by going to ARRANGE/ORDER and select "bring to front", "move to back", etc... for either one of the selected objects. Unless you are trying for some special effect it's easier to "Format Picture" which iis probably similiar to Publisher 2002, which allows you to right click on text boxes and pictures so that they can be formatted with their own border and fill without obstructing the hyperlink function (right click/FORMAT PICTURE-TEXT/ Colors and Lines tab/selection). Another interesting alternative is to use "Hot Spots" from the tool bar on the left to create an area on an object (picture, text, etc...) to use as a hyper link. You can create multiple "Hot Spots" (hyperlinks) on different areas of the same object. Sort of the same as using "invisible" autoshapes with no borders or fill as an overlay with a hyperlink. The latter allows you to use ovals/circles, or even freeform shapes to define specific areas for creating a hyperlink. Select AUTOSHAPES/LINES/FREEFORM from the toolbar on the left.
