Hi,

I am helping a friend publish a web site using Microsoft Publisher
(MP).  I am familiar with web technology but not with MP.

I helped him upload his files and got all the links working. I had to
hard code the urls for the nav bar, as MP was making them file://c
links.   I thought that was dumb, and why doesn't MP just make relative
links?!

I didn't notice until I got home that MP had also made all the image
href tags refer to file://c , meaning only my friend on his computer
will see the images on his site.  Again, I think this is really
dumb...why isn't MP creating relative links?!

Is this something that can be fixed in the MP settings someplace?  Or,
should I tell my friend to forget about using MP?

The site is http://www.carolinaprojectorsolutions.com/
(note,  I told my friend to replublish his old site with Yahoo's site
builder, since the new site had broken images. Try this url if above
url looks normal http://www.carolinaprojectorsolutions.com/index_files/
)

Thanks, Carol

Publisher does write relative links. The only cause I have encountered where
Pub will write a link pointing to the local drive is when the customer has
implemented a Master Page on the web publication. The Master Page is a print
publication feature. Additionally, the mechinism behind the nav bar wizard
auto generates on each page, so if that is used on a master page I would
expect problems to occur.
3 things to know -
1) use http://www.publishermvps.com/WebDesign/tabid/29/Default.aspx
2) do not use a master page on a web publication
3) do not edit publisher's html

David,

Thanks so much for your reply.  I think my friend did use Master
Borders because when we changed an email address on one page, it
affected all pages.    I'll tell him to remove that element from his
site.  Thanks again!  Carol

Thanks so much for the answer. I think he must have used master pages
because when we made his email address a hyperlink, it affected all
pages of his site.   I'll tell him to get rid of the master page.
Thanks again!
