Publisher does not support this generally. The only way you can do that is
to open the HTML code that is generated from Publisher, in Notepad, or some
such, and do it directly. You can't insert via the Pub doc. That of course
means you have to do it each time you change the page which most will find a
hassle.
With that said, it has been my experience that sometimes even though the
instructions say that you have to insert the script in the header section,
you don't. I don't pretend to understand why, but I have used the Insert
HTML code fragment feature, placed the code that is supposed to go in the
header before any other code, and insert the combined code. I posted some
code earlier today (see drop down menu) that is an example where the
instructions said part of the code needed to be in the head section, but I
combined it and it seemed to work just fine. I am not saying it will work
all the time, but try it, and then preview the page to see if it worked. If
not, keep looking for alternative code that doesn't require it...there is a
lot of it out there.
If you have time and this works, please post back and let me know. Good
luck.

DavidF,
I have tried what you prescribed (ie. just insert all of the code in the
body) a number of times during the last two weeks and I can tell you that it
worked in all instances. So far, so good.

Interesting. Will the page fade or other special effects that are normally put
in the header work in the body? For years I have been manually inserting such
code in the header on pages like this:
http://www.logwell.com/tech/dhdwe/plastics.html
(That is a page about O-rings and I use a circular lap dissolve effect...cute
eh?) It sure would be nice to not have to manually enter that code in notepad
each time the page is changed.

Hey Syd,
Apparently not, as I see you changed the page yesterday, and see no special
effects today. Sorry.
As I said, it doesn't work all the time, but with all the free code that is
available out there, there should be something that would work for you. I
usually can find something that I can adapt to my needs. If I can't then I
adapt my design so I don't have to manually change the code. Its too much
hassle for me.

I see the effect now. Cute, yes. Sorry, I don't know the answer. Try
inserting the code into the body and test it.
Don't forget that you and I use Publisher 2000, so what works for us, may
not work for someone that uses 2002 and 2003 which generates different code.
And what works in IE may not work in Firefox or other browsers. For example
I believe that one has the option of disabling JavaScript in Firefox and
your particular effect does not work in Firefox, though your page loads ok
without it.
I guess I believe that just because one can do something, doesn't mean one
should. Personally, I won't stay on a page that has music, wait for a page
to load with lots of flash, and find many special effects irritating and
alienating. Have you ever been to a site where little bits of text follows
your mouse around....aarrgghh!

Hello All,
Having read the answers here about how you can not insert HTML in a header I
have just developed an Excel workbook that will allow you insert code into a
file.
The workbook allows the user to select multiple files and specify a single
search for value (for example "<head>") and then insert multiple line after
the line containing the sought for text.
I now see that this forum does not allow me to post attachments! I am
trying to find a web site that I can post the workbook to and then others can
access it.
I will post back...
