I have designed my website in Publisher 2000 but have been told that because
the items on it have been saved as images rather than text, that this is not
helping with my search engine submissions.

For example, if you look at my website

www.singles-scene.co.uk

you will see that it is not possible to highlight any of the items on it.

How do I change the items on my website so that they become "text"?

All help much appreciated! Thanks.

You need to change your design. Unlike a print document, when you overlap
elements in a web document, they become an image. So, forget word wrap and
such; don't overlap your text boxes with any element, and Pub will produce
text instead of an image.
