Hi, I'm having problems publishing my website using ftp. When I go through
the publishing process, everything seems to go according to the 'publishing
using ftp' article but it says 'page not found' when I type in the web
address. I've noticed that although my domain name has been saved as a
.com.htm file and all of my pictures etc are uploaded in a separate folder,
there is not index.htm file. I've contacted my host and they say that I need
to identify an index file to be able to launch the website. Should publisher
not do this automatically? And if so, why isn't it doing it with mine? I'd
really appreciate any help, I feel like I'm going around in circles ;o)
Thanks!
Aileen.

Are you using Pub 2002? Then read: "Web Publication Changes Made in Version
2002 of Publisher":
http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/archive/2006/01/03/81262.aspx

And if not then reference the trouble shooting and FTP articles here:
http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/archive/category/1921.aspx

That should lead to a solution...if not post back.

Thanks for getting back to me! I'm using Publisher 2003 and I'd actually gone
through the trouble shooting page before I posted first. I had the website up
and running last week but wanted to add a paypal shopping cart and a couple
of more video files so I think I have the urls and the login info etc
correct. I also have enough memory. I tried using the ftp you recommended
instead of smart ftp but I had no joy with that either. I'm at a loss as to
what else I can try. Is there any chance the html code fragment I inserted
for the paypal cart would have any effect? It seemed to work until I put that
in, although even now when I remove it I'm getting the same result. I enable
fpse on my host account control panel and tried to publish in http but for
some reason that didn't work either so I turned fpse back off again as I know
you said it can affect using ftp. Have you any idea why my index files aren't
showing up/uploading? Thanks again for your help!

Humm. I thought I replied yesterday, but I don't see my response. Perhaps I
accidentally sent it directly to you? If not, then post back, and I will try
again.

Hi again,

I didn't actually get a response but my host company were able to resolve
the issue. Many thanks for your time!

Aileen.

Aileen,

Thanks for posting back. I am glad to hear that you resolved the issue.
Perhaps if no one gets around to offering suggestions, people will fix
things on there own?   ;-)
