If you've tried any of the web templates, you know this already

My dilemma is that I really like a particular template ("network") that shipped with the program, but can't deal with index.htm being 800k

Is there a quick way to convert the templates to FrontPage?  Does Microsoft have these templates available somewhere in FP format

..or as a last resort, are there any tricks to quickly (and safely) cut the garbage out of the page in notepad?

You are correct, I cover this at http://www.davidbartosik.com/pub11.htm

FrontPage codes in a completely different way than Publisher.
And has their own "themes".
Cleaning up the code would be a very daunting task.
And you'd have to redo that modification each time you made a change an
Publisher rewrote the page.

I've tried to express to MS that users don't want web page files this big,
so I will retain your post and add it to my collection in the effort to get
MS to change.

note to other posters, if you are unhappy with 2003 as well post your
concerns or email them to me.
