Most webhosts allow for password protected folders or directories, but how
they do it varies with the host. Check your web host FAQs, or look in
support, and you should find what will work in your host. Once you have that
set up, then produce the members only content in a second Publisher file,
link to it, and from your main site, and upload to the password protected
folder or directory.

I have found a few sites that offer script for password protection but it's
important to note when you put the script on your page and someone views the
source code they can see the password in some scripts.  the below one they
cannot.

I found the above one to be pretty cool and what I did was created a blank
page in my document and put the script on it.  I put it in web preview and
created my user id's and then copied and pasted the script it created on the
page I wanted to protect.  I did have a few people who said they could not
get the curser to go in the box but they were all computer illiterates so I
don't know if that had anything to do with it.  Don't forget to name the page
you are putting it on.  If you need help with that, right click on your
little page in your document at the bottom, choose rename page  you'll see
file name and at the end of the box and htm, you place that 8 character name
here.  good luck
