When I upload my index on my website, the embedded picture in the pattern
page "a ready made page written by the web publisher program 2003, not by me"
does not show in the browser ( internet explorer version 6.2900), though it
shows on the browser in the computer when I check my design. I uploaded the
required picture separately on the website but yet it doesn't show, only its
borders, I checked the picture title on the Microsoft clipart file and
checked the HTML of the page on the notepad program and made sure that the
picture I uploaded is the right one, it showed only twice in the whole page,
once as a title and once as a picture .gif. what is the problem?

When you Publish to the Web, Publisher produces both an index.htm file and a
index_files folder which contain all the supporting graphics and additional
pages. Upload both the index.htm file AND the index_files folder.

thank u for replying, i did in the first place, i uploaded all the files in
the folder, the img also is only 18KB, what else can i do?

In your description of what you did, you said that you uploaded the picture
separately. That doesn't sound like you uploaded the index_files folder
intact with all the contents. Perhaps delete all the old Publisher files off
your site, and upload a fresh index.htm file and a fresh version of the
index_files folder.

If that doesn't work, then post the URL of your website so we can see what
is going on.

I get nothing but an error when I go to your site URL right now, and the
first time I looked at it, I got only the surrounding advertising...no page
content at all.

My first guess is that you are not uploading the index.htm file and the
index_files folder to the correct folder or directory on the host. Read the
host instructions about how and where to upload your html files again. You
probably missed something...or typed something incorrectly. All these
freebie hosting services have some catch and lots of limitations, so you
will just have to study the instructions to find out where the root
directory is for this particular one.

My second guess is that the hosting service you are trying to use is
effectively framing the Publisher content, which will likely create problems
with your links, even if you do get the home page loaded. You may end up
having to build a textual menu with absolute links, but first concentrate on
getting your home page (index.htm) uploaded to the correct location on your
host.

my fault, every thing was uploaded but i didn't name the wp index, i left the
yahoo index instead, go now and you'll find the right index, any way u can
take a look at my primary website, i write in html and have never encountered
a similar probleme like this picture probleme, that's why i gave u the pass
word, so u can take a look at the files and detect if there is any thing
wrong, any way, my other web site is www.geocities.com/nadiaelmofty, i think
u won't find problems with this site, unless it is a server problem, but i
had no problems with people i know in spain and US regarding this site

You will have to change several things.

First of all, you are not producing the html files correctly. It appears
that you are using Pub 2003, but you are doing a File > Save As a web page.
This produces "Rich" html , or heavy pages with lots of Office tags. Instead
when it is time to produce your html files, go to File > Publish to the Web.
This will produce "filtered html" which is much lighter.

The other major issue you are having is your webpages are being framed. If
you use Publisher's built in wizard to produce your nav bar, it writes
relative links to the other pages. If you leave the Publisher default set
up, when you publish to the web it produces the index_files subfolder which
contains your other pages and the graphics. Publisher writes relative links
to that folder, but because your site is being framed, the links are
incorrect.

To work around this you should go to Tools > Options > Web tab and uncheck
"Organize supporting files in a folder", "rely on VML...", "Allow PNG...".
Now when you Publish to the web all your html files and graphics will be
produced in one group along with the index.htm file. This will/should fix
the images problem as the browser will find the images.

Don't use the built-in navbar wizard. Build your own navbart and insert
absolute links to your other pages. If you look at your working site:
www.geocities.com/nadiaelmofty
Mouse over the links and look in the status bar to see how they are written.
Those are absolute links. For example:
http://www.geocities.com/nadiaelmofty/doc222.html is the link to your What's
new page.
Write the links to your other pages in your new site the same way.
http://www.geocities.com/linorah/index_Page398.htm
But since Publisher arbitrarily chooses page numbers, it will be easier for
you to write the links if you use custom file names for your other pages.
For example go to your "Poems" page in Publisher, Tools > Web page Options.
Under Publish to the Web and File name, type in "poems". Now when you
Publish to the web your Poems page will be named "index_poems.htm", so the
link: http://www.geocities.com/linorah/index_poems.htm

And finally be sure to compress your images before you produce your new
pages. Reference: Compress graphics file sizes to create smaller Publisher
Web pages:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HA011266301033.aspx

When you have complete all the changes, delete all your old Publisher html
files from your host, Publish to the Web and upload your new files. With a
little luck, your images will load, and your links will work.

And by the way...free is great, but because your site is being framed,
search engines cannot index it. Don't expect many people to find your site
unless you direct them to it.
