Hi,

I have managed to get my first website uploaded thru MS Pub, but when I view
it from a server computer we have at work, it looks completely different,
with no buttons on the left hand side which effectively means that it doesn't
have any links !!
The site is www.malthousedentalcentre.co.uk. It does seem to work from
other machines. My worry is that the site may not be 'universal' so others
may view it and end up with just the first page visible with no functions!

please advise.

Please repost your question to the web group:

and include the URL of your website, plus the version of Publisher you are
using and tell us which browser is being used on the computer that is having
problems viewing the site. We will try to help you there.

It seems to load and look ok in both IE and FireFox on this machine. Perhaps
the office computer is using a different browser?

Also, be sure to go to tools > options > web tab and uncheck "Rely on
VML..." and "Allow PNG...", and compress your images before you Publish to
the Web. This will help with cross browser compatibility.

and Google the subject. What you will find is that it is difficult to get a
'universal' site.

Also don't use the Master Page in Publisher for web pages.

David,

It doesn't in Mozilla. On the left hand side, the names of links are
missing, though mousing over them and clicking brings up the link. I'm
not sure if this error message has any bearing or not: The character
encoding specified in the HTTP header (iso-8859-1) is different from the
value in the <meta> element (windows-1252). The same problem is seen in
Opera.

Thanks Mike. Hopefully taking the suggested steps in changing the OP's page
will resolve these problems. It's also possible that they will need to
change the encoding, perhaps to Unicode UTF 8.

I guess we will see if the OP makes the changes and posts back.

Hi,
Thanks for the info. Just one question before I go to the link you
posted..you suggested not to publish from the Master Page... how do i know if
I have done this accidentally...is it the first page that you are given when
you start creating your site? Which page do i publish from?

Open your Pub file, View > Master Page. If it is blank, you are fine. If
not, then move all the content onto your main page....especially if that is
where your links are. Go to Help and type in " Master Page" to read more.

It sounds like you need to read and understand a few more of the basics.

As far as i can tell there is no problem on the site as all links worked
fine. Maybe its because you are using a server comp. I am using the
latest internet explorer.

Thanks all for the help.
The site seems to work from all the other pc's I have tried, on IE and
Mozilla, and it just seems to be altered on server computers running sbs
2003. I have tried to go to the compatability site but to be honest, it just
seems as if it's beyond my experience. I'll accept things as they are, and
just assume that most people will see the site the way I see it, and get back
to drilling teeth..much easier. Thanks again..the help has been invaluable
