I have a website that someone else designed and I just discovered MS
Publisher.  I am now redesigning my site (www.twisted-cow.com) with MS
Publisher, but I have no idea how my old web designer created the pull down
menus and managed to have all the inputs feed into paypal.
Is there anyone that can help with this or has already done it and is
willing to help me out?
Thanks!

Personally I think you are making a mistake. Though you can incorporate some
dynamic functions in a Publisher website, you will never accomplish what can
be done when building sites such as the one you have. Publisher is intended
for those who want a small, static site.

Those who do use PayPal incorporate the code given by PayPal using the
insert html code fragment tool in Publisher, but you won't get much help
with that here. You will have to work that out on your own. You might look
at the code of your current site to figure out how it was done...

You are probably right.  I do want a redesign of my site, but I do not have
the funds to pay someone to do all of that stuff again, I can afford a page
or two..ones that I can duplicate and manipulate for my products.  It took my
web designer almost a year to get my original site done.

In the meantime, I will try to figure it out...but I will keep looking for
someone who has already done it and may be willing tell me or create a page
for me to duplicate.

Thanks!

You being making a mistake mixing Publisher code with the code you already
have - there's plenty of validation errors, but at least it's working. The
question is...do you want to become a webmaster or do you want to grow your
regular business? There's lots to learn about building and maintaining a
website...which is cheaper, paying someone to clean it up in a few days or
you spending a few months learning the skills to do it yourself?

LJ,

Perhaps one of the best reasons to use Publisher for building a website is
as you stated, you can't really afford to hire someone to do it for you. I
think in your case, you can build a site with Publisher that will equal, and
in some respects, exceed what you have now. However, you are going to have
to learn some stuff...and have time for a lot of trial and terror, if you
want to build and manage your own site.

I rethought my original reply after reading your response. I also looked at
your site again, and you could recreate the whole design in Publisher, with
a few changes. And, I actually think you *should* redesign now that I looked
at this page:
http://www.twisted-cow.com/whiteyellow.html
It works fine in IE, but is totally dysfunctional in FireFox. That is
totally unacceptable from a "professional web designer" in my opinion.
(note, I am NOT a professional!) Seriously, there doesn't seem to be any
excuse for a professional not building better cross browser support. You can
build the same page in Publisher and it will work in FireFox and most
browsers. It will be left justifified and fixed, and there may be other
small changes...but it will be more functional than the one you have.

I am assuming that this is the way you want to use PayPal. If so, you can do
this in Publisher. I also think that if you go to the PayPal website and
look around the support section for FAQs, you will find instructions about
what code you need to insert into your site in order to use the service. I
really don't think it will be as complicated as you suspect. Once you know
the code, you will just use the insert html code fragment tool in Publisher
to insert the code snippet from PayPal. Like I said...you are going to have
to put some work into this thing...

I would recommend you take the time to read: Prepare, publish, and maintain
your Publisher Web site:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HA100947601033.aspx
It is written for Pub 2007, but if you are using IE7 instead of IE6, then
the directions for using Vista would apply. FTP uploading has changed with
the introduction of IE7.

Make sure that Publisher is the right way for you to go before you invest a
lot of time...

If you are going to use forms in your web publication, reference: Publisher
web publication forms 101:
http://msmvps.com/blogs/dbartosik/archive/2006/01/07/80564.aspx

Invest some time now in learning about the basics of using Publisher for
building websites, planning your site, and learning what you need to know in
order to make it successful. Read through this newsgroup, and that work
alone will save you time and frustration. If you are willing to invest the
time, you can build a pretty nice site in Publisher, and it will be more
functional than the one you have. Be sure to KISS...that is one thing I like
about your site design. Simple, clean and fast loading...in IE at least.

Good luck.
