I have built and published a website using Microsoft Publisher 2003.  There
are a lot of photographs so the webpages are loading slowly.  I have uploaded
my pototgraphs to www.photobucket.com when I paste the html code from
photobucket into my publication it is showing as code on my website.  How do
I get the photo to display instead of the code.

Please be a specific as possible as my knowledge of building web pages is
very limited.
Thank you
Regards
Pauline

What happens if you Insert > Html code fragment box and then paste your html
code into that code fragment box? Ctrl + V is a good pasting shortcut for
the code fragment box...

Hi DavidF
Great help, I had cut and paste the code into an ordinary text box because I
didn't know about fragment boxes, so noe I have managed the link but the one
photo now dominates the whole of my page any ideas how I can make it smaller.
Tried making the fragment box tiny but photo stays the same size
Thanks for you help

Pauline,

You have a couple choices...at least. If you want to continue to use the
approach of linking to the image files that you have uploaded to
photobucket, then you will need to resize the images before you upload them.
You would use a third party image editing program to size the images. If you
don't have one, then http://www.irfanview.com/ is a great little freebie
that you can download and install. Look under Help for instructions on how
to resize the images.

Or the better choice, which is what you probably should have done in the
first place, is you can simply insert the original images into your
Publisher pages and resize the picture frame to the size you want, AND then
compress the images before you upload your site.
Read: Compress graphics file sizes to create smaller Publisher Web pages:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HA011266301033.aspx

And before you republish your site go to tools > options > web tab and
uncheck "rely on vml..." and "allow png...".

sounds complicated will let you know how I get on.

Pauline,

Its really not all that complicated...I just made it so. Bottom line is the
way you were doing it is not the best way, but I was trying to be
non-judgmental, and give you a way to make it work. Yes, if you want to link
to a full sized image, then knowing how to insert the html code to link to
the image on photobucket could be useful, but for the majority of your
images where you want a smaller size, using the compress images tool in
Publisher is a much better idea. It effectively resizes, and reduces the
images for you without doing it manually in the image editor...and you can
do all the images you inserted at once.

About the only complicated thing about it is if you have to download and
install the Office 2003 SP1...and that is because of the size of the patch,
and the hoops MSFT seems to want you to jump through to get it. If you go to
Help > About Microsoft Office Publisher, you may find that you already have
SP1 installed, and then it is really pretty simple to compress the images.
Just read the article.

As per the changes of the options under tools, you should do that regardless
of how you choose to get your images into your site.
