I am currently developing my first web site but I ran into a problem I can
not locate a resolution to. I am trying to create a hyper link to a Word and
Excel doc I have stored in my computer. I have been able to link pdf docs
which work but need these others to work as well. In the text I have
highlighted, right click, hyerlink and choose the doc. However, when I
preview the site these 2 links do not work. What do I need to do so I can add
these?

I am guessing that when you say that PDF files "work", you mean that they
open in the browser automatically after clicking the link? That is because
most people have the Adobe Reader plug-in installed in the browser. Word and
Excel files won't open in a browser. You have to download those to the
computer and open them there...and of course you need to have Office
installed.

Alternatively, you haven't uploaded the files to your host, and/or your
wrote the links incorrectly. Reference: Including external files in a

I read the article, but am not very computer literate. When it discusses
uploading the document, does that mean I need to be in my FTP manager to
upload so the document can download?

Yes, use your FTP manager to upload the files to your host. I would suggest
making a subfolder on your site called "downloads", and putting the files
you want available for downloading there. Pub the folder at the same level
in the host directory as the index.htm file and the index_files folder. Then
the link to your word files, for example, would be
http://www.yourwebsite.com/downloads/yourwordfile.doc

You might want to go back and read that article a few more times until it
sinks in. Sometimes it takes a while to learn new stuff...

Thank you David. At least I know how to do that.

David, I am having the same trouble. My links work perfectly inside of
Publisher, but as soon as I post them to my page, they no longer work. It's
not even that they go to incorrect pages, but they are no longer hyperlinks
at all. They are just blue, underlined words.

I have all my files in my host, and I have the correct link, I'm sure of it.

I even added a page inside Publisher and created a link to the new page.
That link works perfectly inside publisher, but when I post it on the web, no
more...

Please help!!

Do me a favor. Post your question again and start a new thread. Adding to
threads like this appears that you are talking about the original post and
confuse everyone. And when you post your question, include which version of
Publisher you are using, which version of IE, include a link to the site
where the problem is occurring, and be specific about which link on the site
is not working. Do this and it will be easier to help. Thanks.
