Website created with Publisher 2003.  Mac users can view links

I have created a website using Publisher 2003.  I see from other postings
that others have reported that Mac users have not been able to use their
website links.  I have taken some of the steps suggested.  I've gone into
Publisher tools > options > web tab and made sure "rely on VML..." and "allow
png..."  was unchecked.

I've also downloaded  Firefox  and I've  found that I can not use the
website link on my site.

Thanks for assistance.

Please post a link to your website, the URL, and tell us specifically what
links are not working.

Thank you for being willing to look at my website to assit me.

When I view it through foxfire, I can not move off of the home page as Mac
users have reported.  Here is the URL to the second page which is  one of the
information pages they need to view.

I suspect it is because you have grouped all your menu or navbar links with
the other objects in the left hand column, which turns it into an image, and
kills the links. Here is the image:
http://www.womenswalkwithchrist.org/index_files/image583.gif

Ungroup the links, and see if that doesn't fix the problem.

The Weekends, Registration, etc links are also dead...converted to an image.
Try ungrouping as a fix again, and if that doesn't work, try removing the
fill.

Any design technique that combines design elements into an image will kill
the links and distort the text. You can try to select the text on the web
page. If it is an image, you won't be able to do so. Then look for a reason
why it has been converted to an image. Besides grouping with other elements,
sometimes fill can do this, and sometimes using a non web ready font will be
converted to an image....

David,
Your ideas have been very helpful and I can navigate the links using
Foxfire. Your suggestion to download this browser was very helpful as it
allowed mw to see what was working and not working.  Ungrouping and removing
fill on the boxes which contained links worked.

The only issue I have now is that  I had to click on the logo/or home page
link to refresh the web link before the navigation links started working in
Fox Fire.  I'm concerned that many Mac users won't know to do this.  I added
a message on the home page however that page doesn't come up at first
connection only after the refresh.  Your information thus far has been so
helpful.  Any ideas on this one?  Thanks!

That's probably because you were viewing cached pages - it's not behaving
like that here....try viewing your pages again. If it happens again try
hitting the F5 key.

Thanks Rob
I'm getting some good feedback from a friend who uses a Mac.  At first she
said there was overlap with color and words and then she said all looked
great when I hadn'r changed anything.  I wonder if she was experiencing what
I did.  Thank you for letting me know what you see.

Beth,

Good to hear. But the Weekends, Registration, etc links are still dead in FF
when I view the page. Try removing the border, and perhaps you can add the
fill back in. Or, even more likely, reformat the information email address
that extends from the left hand column over that text box in FF, and under
that text box in IE. In this case it may not be either the fill or the
border. The trick for troubleshooting these things is to "deconstruct" the
design until you find the design element, technique or formatting that is
creating the problem. Try different combinations and direct the html files
to your computer where you can test the pages before you upload them.

I wouldn't worry about the cache problem. As Rob said, my view of the page
is the new page. Most browsers will automatically refresh and load new
content, most of the time...

I did...and just checked again. I am talking about the links in the body of
the page, not the navbar on the left, which does work.

All links on page410 body work for me...keep in mind there's some underlined
stuff that just aren't links.

I get the same on
http://www.womenswalkwithchrist.org/index_files/Page410.htm as you do.

I was talking about the home page:
http://www.womenswalkwithchrist.org/index.htm and the links "Weekends",
"Registration" and "Spirit Circles" in the green bordered text box in the
body. I should have been more specific.

Yes, I think so, and that was my original suggestion to fix the problem.
However, I then suggested:
"Try removing the border, and perhaps you can add the
fill back in. Or, even more likely, reformat the information email address
that extends from the left hand column over that text box in FF, and under
that text box in IE. In this case it may not be either the fill or the

Sometimes fill can kill the links...sometimes it is grouping...sometimes it
is something else.

Are you saying that the links in the greem bordered box still don't link?  I
do want them to link so I appreciate knowing that.  Yes, there was fill in
the box before which I deleted.  Removing the fill corrected the problem with
the other boxes.  I'm not sure why it didn't work on this one.  Thanks for
the info.  I will work on it.

David,
I can't thank you enough for all your assitance.  I was really stuck before
I received your help.  I'm hearing from my Mac friend that at first the
colors and text over lapped and then it all seemed to work perfectly-  I
hadn't made any changes between the two times she tried it.  It is so true
about the "deconstruct" strategy.  Understanding that grouped items are
considered images by other browsers has been really helpful as well.  The
Foxfire has given me another way to view my site. As I get more feedback,
I'll continue to work with it.  I'm not sure the problem with needing to
refresh the site to make the links work has been solved.  Thanks again for
all your help.  I continue to appreciate any feedback on how the site is
working for others.

I believe I have solved the problem with the links on the front page now.  I
realized that a white fill had been used.  I removed that and then had to
start over with a new text box.  The links work for me with Fox fire. I too
found that the email link overlapped into my text box and I have corrected
that as well.  It is a process!  But it is worth it if all users can utilize
our site.  I would welcome any feedback as to how it is working for others
now.  Thanks.
