MS Office Forum / Publisher / Web Design / December 2007Publisher 2007 relative hyperlinks
Let me preface by stating that I have never used Publisher to create a webpage, and my raw html skills are largely forgotten. I am making up a webpage in Publisher 2007 with hyperlinks and am using the hot spot option over a photo. Once the box is drawn, a "Insert Hyperlink" window appears with a list of files in "My Documents" . If I select the proper page there, and then upload it to the server, the hyperlink does not work, looking to the "my documents" folder instead. In viewing the source for the page, it includes "href="http://...myname\mydocuments\mynewwebsite\page2.htm" instead of the relative hyperlink, which should just be the page name since it is in the same directory on the server. I cannot figure out a way to leave off the protocol, URL, and the path when creating the link. Last thing I want to do is create in publisher and then correct in notepad... Any thoughts appreciated. When the insert hyperlink dialog box pops up look at the left column under Link To: you have the options of Existing File or Web Page, Place in this document, Create New Document and Email Address. Right now you are probably at Existing File or Web page. Then look directly under the Look in: and you will probably see that Current Folder is selected, which then looks in My Documents. If you are trying to write a relative link to page2.htm of your web page, go back to the left column and select Place in this Document. Then you have the option of choosing the First, Last, Next, or Previous...or under Page numbers and names, you can select page2. Select that and a relative link will be written correctly to the page in your web site. You can also right click the hot spot and edit the incorrect link. And for what its worth, you don't need to use the hot spot option. You can just insert the hyperlink directly into the image. Merry Christmas to you too. To be honest, I have never used the hot spot option, and thus my answer was lacking to you last time. I am glad you figured it out, and taught me something in the process. Thanks.
