I created a web site using publisher 2007, and the images seem to load too slowly. I took a look at the generated html source and noticed that it contains unused references to bitmap images in addition to the properly compressed jpg or gif images. These bmp images are the original images that were linked into the publisher file. I suspect that the inclusion of the unused bmp references is confusing browsers. The web site is at www.dftmicrosystems.ca Please let me know how I can reduce the load time and how to get rid of the unused references. Publisher writes two sets of code...one for IE and one for other browsers. You can't really change that. Though I don't see any PNG files, be sure to go to Tools > Options > Web tab and uncheck "Allow PNG...". Your home page loads pretty quickly by dial-up modem given the fact that there is little text and almost all images. It appears that you did use the compress graphics features as the individual size of each image is not large, but if you want the page to load faster, then use less pictures...and make the page more narrow. I am viewing at 1152 and have to scroll horizontally to see your entire page. I would suggest that you scale it back to perhaps 984 pixels wide (the widest default webpage size in Pub 2007) and scale back the size of your images and the quantity. If you don't use the compress images feature, insert oversized images, and have the PNG option enabled, you frequently end up with PNGs. And the Publisher generated PNGs are larger and take longer to load than JPGs or GIFs. The main message is that the more images you have on a page, the longer it will take to load.
