MS Office Forum / Publisher / Web Design / April 2008Publisher 2003 in IE7 vs. Firefox
Anyone know why a Publisher 2003 web page would display properly in Firefox but not in IE7? Just a single page, with 3 graphics and some column formatting. I've checked the Tools > Internet Options and didn't see anything that I thought might prevent the proper display. As an aside, it's pretty pathetic that I had to download Firefox to see the correct preview of Publisher output. Extremely disappointing that Microsoft cannot seem to get it right anymore. If this is some obscure security fix, I can live without it. As you did not provide a link to the problem page, I will suggest the basic fixes: 1. Go to Tools > Options > Web tab and uncheck "Rely on VML..." and "Allow PNG...". The "Rely on VML..." option has be removed from Pub 2007. 2. Do not use a Master page in a web publication. 3. Ungroup any design elements with hyperlinks, such as text boxes grouped with images. The grouping tends to create combined images which kill the links. 4. Along the same lines as #3, if you are using a bottom navbar that is built with the navbar wizard in Publisher, you must ungroup that set of links from the wizard. Otherwise it will be converted to an image and the links won't work. Try those fixes, and if they do not help, then post back with a link to the page where you are having problems, along with a detailed description of the problem. Be sure to compress your images and graphics before you upload your new html files. Hopefully someone will come along with IE 7 and offer you some feedback. When you say that the page does not display properly, can you describe to me what parts of the page don't look right? When you say that the page does not display properly with IE7, are you viewing the page with different computers? But there are no links to anywhere either in IE7 or Firefox Funnily enough your navbar links work in IE6 but there is no link in your presentations page to get back to anywhere. John G. You say you have the same problem...what problem is that? Which version of Publisher are you using? Which version of IE? Which operating system are you running? Which template did you start with to build your site? The biggest issue I see right now has to do with a gradient filled text box, but if you will provide answers to the above questions, then perhaps we can help. It's not so much that ultimately this cannot be resolved but that when a user sees a webpage, they aren't going to screw around with settings and such -- you've got literally seconds and they are gone. This is just a simple page, but I'm planning a massive design and if IE7 requires users to touch their nose while standing on their tiptoes I will not be able to link in Publisher brochures. So for now at least the Publisher files will go away in the next iteration. I'm hopeful that Publisher is the underlying reason that IE7 cannot consistently display properly.
