Hi,
I'm using publisher 2003 to create my website. I've just encountered a
problem that I can't figure out. I'm adding a text box to the top of the home
page and filling it with a picture. I can publish that no problem, but when I
add text to the picture it creates a link to a non existent page!! Any
suggestions as to why?
Thanks

Select the picture and/or text, right click, hyperlink, remove...

And perhaps a better workflow...insert picture into your page and then
create text boxes and drag them onto your picture. I see no need of
inserting a picture into a text box.

Thanks for the reply David,
I have already tried removing hyperlink but there aren't any attached to
either the pic or text. I have also tried just inserting the picture and
adding text boxes with the same result .. if  I mouseover the picture it
gives me a link to www.takingthelongwayhome.co.uk/</a   which returns page
not found when clicked.
Not a BIG problem, just a pain that I can't figure out why it is doing it
and not being able to remove it!!
Thanks

Then delete the image and text and do a web page preview, and mouseover the
area where you find the active link. I suppose its possible that somehow you
put a hyperlink hotspot in the area...or on the picture...or on the
text...or... Bottom line is you need to deconstruct the image and text to
find where the link is inserted and remove it. If you can't find it, make a
backup copy of your Pub file, and then delete all but that page, and use
ww.yousendit.com , upload a copy of that file, and send a link to yourself.
Then post the link so I an others can download it, and maybe we can find it
for you.

I am not sure why for you ended up with your banner having a link after
Publishing or in a web page preview. I think it has to do with the way the
Publisher template wizard works in some cases, but I am not sure.  Bottom
line, I can't tell you the why for, but here is the full Publication file
fixed:

A couple other things to keep in mind as you build the site. Before you
Publish to the Web and produce your web files, go to Tools > Options > Web
tab and uncheck "rely on VML..." and "allow png...". You need to do this so
that the site also looks ok in FireFox. I would recommend that you download
and install FF if only for testing your site. If you can get the site to
look good in both IE and FF, then it will look good in most browsers. Right
now it is broken in FF. Also uncheck "incremental uploading..." if you are
using FTP uploading.

Also be sure to compress your graphics:

Reference: Compress graphics file sizes to create smaller Publisher Web
pages (2003):
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/publisher/HA011266301033.aspx

And, it appears that you were adding custom .htm file names to your pages.
That is great, but don't bother with the home page. That page should be
called index.htm by default.

A great adventure I must say...good luck.

David,
Many thanks for your help. Whatever you did has cured the problem. I have
also carried out your other recommendations and everything is looking good,
FF included.
Thanks also for your good wishes.
You guys are a godsend.
