This is not a Windows group. Do not upgrade a driver from the Microsoft web
site. Go to the manufacturer's web page and get the update there. Have you
re-booted?

What did work was I removed the driver that was there and did a scan for
hardware changes. Windows found new hardware and automatically installed
the new driver. That did it. Everything came back; volume control and sound.
