When attempting to print from MS Publisher to my Dell AIO 966 printer, I
receive "Cannot Load Printer Driver".  MS Word 2003, part of the same Office
Suite, prints with no problem, as does everything else on my system capable
of printing.  My OS is Vista Home Premium.

1. Go back and recheck your printer settings.

2. Check to see if there are updates for the printer driver.

I  already went through all the "Latest Driver" stuff with Dell, including
doing a reformat/reinstall of everything to finall purge all vestiges of old
printer drivers.  The drivers I have installed come from the site you
provided the link to.  This has successfully solved all my printing problems
with MS Office and everything else that prints, with the exception of the
Publisher.  Since Publisher, Word, etc.  all come from the same package, I
can't understand why I can print with no problem in all the others, but not
there.  That's why I posted my problem here, and not to a general printer
group.

There are other things you can try. Disable the printer in the printer folder,
then make it default again. Years ago Publisher wouldn't print if there wasn't
an image writer or some other printer driver of this type installed. Do you have
Generic Color PS for Commercial Printer installed? Or Publisher's Imagesetter?

I'm not familiar with Generic Color PS for Commercial Printer or Publisher's
Image setter.  Where do I obtain these?  Like a lot of other things, I've
never had problems like these before I made the serious error of getting a
system running Vista, which I've found to be an unreliable, bug-riddled
nightmare since day one.  I can understand a few compatibility problems with
some software, but you'd think MS would at least try to avoid those problems
with their own stuff.  No doubt they'll offer something eventually, for a
price of course, to fix the problems they've created.

The printers should be available by simply going to the Printer folder in the
control panel, File, Add printer, Add a local printer, Use an existing port:
next, scroll down to Generic. Both the Color and Imagesetter are available.
I appreciate your problems with Vista.

I tried all that as you suggested.  Still getting "Cannot Load Printer
Driver" whenever I try to print from Publisher.  Printing goes off without a
hitch in everything else, including the other Office 2003 apps I use all the
time.  If they're all part of the Office Suite, why is Publisher so obstinate?

I wonder if it would help if you right click the
Publisher executable and choose Run As
Administrator? Or possibly try running Pub2003
in WinXP compatibility mode.

All fine suggestions, thanx.  Too bad none of them solve the problem.  What I
don't understand is the fact that I can print from all the other Office 2003
apps, Corel Draw, various Adobe programs, etc. without any problem, so the
printer obviously works.  Since I can print from MS Word, also part of Office
2003, but not Publisher, what about  Publisher would make it "Unable to Load
Printer Driver" while Word obviously can load it.

Sorry...that's all I have to offer. I can tell you
that Publisher is very demanding on printer
drivers and just because other apps will print
does not mean Publisher is the cause of
the issue. I suspect the problem lies somewhere
between Vista, the printer driver and the fact
that you have an all-in-one machine.

goto settings, printers,  add an HP IIP printer,  set it as the default.

When in publisher,2003 goto file and print and select the Dell printer.
This is actually a lexmark printer,  and the same problem exists for them
as well.

That seems to have solved the problem, thanx.  I'd be lying if I claimed I
understood why this worked, though.
