What does the pointer with a small + sign mean in publisher?

While typing in a text box the pointer changed from the insert text icon to a
pointer with a small '+' sign at the tip.  Did I accidentally change the mode
I was in?

If you were holding ctrl at the same time, it is a copy symbol. Whatever you
were selecting, drag; there will be a copy.
